VOLKSWAGEN CALIFORNIA

Volkwagen's California is the iconic campervan! The T6 is the Cali's 6th iteration and - although a far cry from the original rear-engined, air-cooled "splittie" - it retains all of the spirit and ethos of the 1950s model.

Our immaculate T6 California Ocean was specified with almost all of Volkswagen's factory optional extras and has since been equipped with everything you could need for the road trip of a lifetime.

In a colour officially listed as “Mojave Beige” - a very photogenic metallic grey/brown, our van is subtle and discreet, and truly at home in outdoor environments, from rocky mountains to rugged coastlines to city centres.

With a footprint not much larger than a premium family estate car, our van offers a driving - and parking - experience that feels familiar and intuitive.

DRIVING
The driving experience offered by our Cali is second-to-none. We wanted our van to feel as “car-like” as possible, and specified it with the more powerful 196PS 2-litre turbo-diesel (2.0 TDI) engine variant, as well as the 7-speed automatic (DSG) gearbox. Combined with Volkswagen's 4-wheel-drive system (4Motion), the chassis and powertrain are absolutely without compromise.

Furthermore, we specified a number of VW optional extras to optimise the driving experience, including:

- adaptive cruise control for effortless motorway miles
- side assist to help with lane-change manoeuvres
- LED headlight upgrade to make night driving easy on the eyes
- reversing camera and parking assistance
- a top-spec infotainment system incorporating GPS sat-nav and connectivity options for both Apple and Android phones, as well as a CD player and digital radio (because what’s a road trip without music?)

CAMPING
Once you’ve arrived at your campsite our Cali really comes into its own. Standard features include:

- a motorised tilting roof, which allows access to the upstairs bed and provides increased headroom in the kitchen when that bed is stowed
- a collapsible camping table (in addition to the fitted interior table) and two folding camping chairs
- a remote-controlled, diesel-fuelled heater for cold-weather camping
- a wind-out awning for protection from sun and rain

We provide a comprehensive set of camping equipment including:

- a 25m electrical hookup cable with carrier and bag
- an electrical hookup adapter (2-3 pin)
- wheel chocks for levelling on uneven ground (rarely needed!)
- a cord washing line with pegs
- games including travel chess, UNO and Rummikub

SLEEPING
Our Cali sleeps 4 in two beds: one upper and one lower, with the upper bed being slightly wider:

- upper: 120 x 200cm
- lower: 114 x 200cm

If you are intending to use the lower bed we will provide a memory foam mattress topper which is laid out on top of the folded seats (see Optional Extras below).

EATING
Our campervan is equipped with a kitchen table and 4 "dining" chairs (the driver and passenger seats both swivel through 180 degrees to face into the kitchen area). Kitchen equipment includes:

- 2 gas burners connected to a camping gas bottle
- a sink (cold water only) with washing-up bowl
- a fitted fridge/cooler with removable basket
- cutlery, bamboo crockery & cups, kitchen utensils, saucepans, a Bialetti coffee pot, a travel kettle … and more!

OPTIONAL EXTRAS
Depending upon your group size; itinerary; and road trip plans, we can optionally supply (for an additional surcharge):

- an Atera towbar-mounted bike rack for 2 bikes with the requisite reflective warning sign and mounts
- a Weber Go-Anywhere BBQ with charcoal & eco-friendly lighters
- a Portapotti travel toilet with AquaCem liquids
- a bespoke memory foam mattress topper for the lower bed
- bedding and towels
